Flu vaccine available to all Vance DOD ID card holders Published Oct. 10, 2013 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Annual flu vaccinations are available for all Department of Defense ID card holders at the 71st Medical Group Immunizations clinic on base. Currently, 68 percent of active duty military at Vance Air Force Base have received their vaccination, usually with FluMist, an intranasal vaccine. The clinic goal is 100 percent vaccination by the end of October. It takes approximately two weeks for your body to build up resistance to the flu, so the earlier you receive the vaccine the better, said Tech. Sgt. Allison Turner, NCO in charge of Immunizations. The 2013-2014 flu season runs from October through May, probably peaking in January or February, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2013-2014.htm. The Immunizations clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic closes at 2 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of each month for training. No appointment is necessary.
