Vance marching units join Cherokee Strip Parade Published Sept. 19, 2013 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Eighty Vance Airmen marched alongside local community members during the Cherokee Strip Parade, Sept. 14, in Enid, Okla. The parade celebrated the Land Run of 1893 where more than 100,000 settlers raced to claim land in the Oklahoma Territory known as the Cherokee Strip. Members of the local community displayed their talents for the parade judges. A number of antique cars, bicycles and entries from the Corvette Club entertained spectators for more than an hour. The parade ended with a herd of Texas Longhorn cattle marching down Randolph Avenue. Col. Darren James, the 71st Flying Training Wing commander, was the grand marshal this year.
