When one of our kids was 7 years old, he was having a squirrelly night. We sat down for dinner and he was headed for trouble.

We warned him that if he didn't settle down, there would be serious consequences, including no Wii for the evening. But he did not settle down.

I said to my son, "OK, no Wii tonight!"

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a dollar bill, slid it over to me and said, "Maybe Mr. Washington can change your mind."

It doesn't take long before we realize that money makes a difference in life.

The 2013 Combined Federal Campaign at Vance Air Force Base kicks off Monday, Sept. 30, and will run through Friday, Nov. 8.

CFC is the only authorized charitable fundraising campaign for Federal employees, both civilian and military. It's about making a difference with a financial donation to a charitable organization of your choice.

Contributing to this year's CFC is your opportunity to make a difference. Here's what just a $1 per week can do:
  • Give 12 elementary school students trained volunteer tutors to help with reading and math.
  • Bring 10 children bilingual beginning-to-read books to build early literacy skills.
  • Pay for three 30-minute appointments for health assessment and counseling for individuals facing physical, developmental or mental health challenges.

When the Vance AFB CFC begins Sept. 30, the following unit representatives will be ready to help you make a difference.
