Back to school: Eisenhower ready to rock Published Aug. 13, 2013 By Sarina Houston 3rd Flying Training Squadron key spouse VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Back-to-school season brings mixed feelings for students, parents and educators. Some are ecstatic about the new school year while others are disappointed to see summer pass so quickly. Whether you're pleased or disappointed, there are a few things going on at Eisenhower Elementary School on base that we can all be enthusiastic about! The theme for the 2013-2014 school year is "Rock On at Eisenhower," and the teachers and staff are ready to rock with a couple of renovations and a few fresh faces. Principal Lyn Murphy and her staff at Eisenhower Elementary School have been working hard this summer to bring some excitement to the new school year. When students arrive at school Aug. 20, they'll be surprised with a brand new floor installed over the summer -- an update that gives the school a fresh look and clean feel. Also installed were new water fountains and a new set of doors leading from the north hallway outside to the gym. And the kids will love the new cubbies installed in the classrooms. In addition to renovations, Eisenhower students will also see some new faces this year. Sheri Ingham joins Eisenhower to teach first grade. Eisenhower also welcomes a new teacher assistant, Annette Thompson, and a new resource teacher, Leann Mills. Amanda Runquist, who taught first grade last year, will be teaching third grade this year. Parents and students can see the new school makeover and meet their children's teachers at the school Open House, scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19. The newly-designed rock 'n' roll-themed shirts will be available to order during the Open House. Parents wanting to volunteer with the Parent Teacher Organization can sign up then. The principal is looking forward to beginning the new school year. "I hope for every student to have a rockin' year at Eisenhower!" Murphy said.
