Team Vance -- volunteer! Published Jan. 4, 2007 By Col Wade Johnson 71st Flying Training Wing Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- Happy Friday Team Vance! Thank you for another productive and safe week. Sunday marks the start of National Volunteer Week and in true Vance Air Force Base form we are ahead of the game with a volunteer event planned for Saturday entitled "Rebuilding Together Through Christmas in April." This project benefits the Enid community by repairing 12 houses for people in need. It is a great way to give back to our supportive community. A total of 300 volunteers are needed for all shifts and the project officer, 1st Lt Bryan Nickola, has set a goal for Vance AFB to provide at least half. The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well here year round and was most recently displayed at the Area 6 Special Olympics Track and Field meet Team Vance held where more than 200 Vance AFB warriors volunteered their time and efforts making the event an overwhelming success. The reported number of Vance AFB volunteers last year totaled more than 400 and to recognize their efforts, the family support center is hosting a cookout Thursday at the base park starting at noon. Stop by to honor our volunteers and thank them for making our base and community a better place to live and work. In conclusion Team Vance, I cannot stress your personal safety enough. Spring fever is here and we're catching up on overdue outdoor chores, participating in sporting events and doing things that we haven't done in many months. Practice Operational Risk Management in everything you do on and off-duty. Each person at this base is needed and valued and we do not want nor can we afford to lose one member of our team to an injury or accident. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!
