'No March Madness' campaign continues Published Nov. 28, 2006 By Col. Wade Johnson 71st Flying Training Wing Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- For Team Vance members, March Madness has a couple of different meanings this week. For National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball fans, it meant the start of the numbers being reduced from 64 to the Sweet 16 and on down until only one team is left standing. For the 71st Flying Training Wing and our 'No March Madness' campaign, sweet 16 came Wednesday when we marked that number of days since we have had an alcohol related incident. In both cases, whether numbers are increasing or decreasing, teamwork plays the key role in achieving the desired results -- making it to the end intact and on top. I thank all of Team Vance for being responsible and working together to put an end to these incidents. However, we must continue to emphasize the various pitfalls involved with alcohol use and continue to take care of each other. We all want to stop counting the days of being free of alcohol-related incidents and go back to when this behavior was an anomaly, not a trend. I would also like to see all of you at hangar 170 at 10 a.m. today to witness a very historic event for Team Vance, the arrival ceremony for the T-6 Texan II. The T-37 has served us admirably for more than 44 years and more than 15,000 VAFB students have trained in this very reliable aircraft. The transition from T-37 to T-6 has been very smooth but is certainly not over. It has taken us two years of planning to get to where we are today with our new trainer, and it will take approximately 18 months before the transition is complete. The T-37 will continue to be used as a primary trainer until the last one departs in late 2006. You have all worked hard to make this day a reality and I encourage all of you to come on out and enjoy this moment. Have a great weekend Team Vance, look after one another and keep each other safe!
