Softball champs

Mary Feighter shadow box presentation

On April 29 during Enlisted Appreciation Night, retired Maj. George Pankonin, the Chairman of the Vance Enlisted Appreciation Night Committee, presents a shadow box made for the late Mary Feighter. Mary was a long-time supporter of Enlisted Appreciation Night, and the shadow box was to be presented the night of the event. Participants recognized Mary’s support of Team Vance Enlisted Airmen with a standing ovation.

(Center) Retired Maj. George Pankonin, the Chairman of the Vance Enlisted Appreciation Night Committee, accepts a saber in recognition for his 12 years of service to the committee. George stepped down from the committee April 29 at Enlisted Appreciation Night, to pursue other volunteer and political avenues. Retired Chief Master Sgt. Bruce Aman has taken his place.

Mendez VCC dedication ceremony

The family of the late Staff Sgt. Christina Mendez, from the 71st Security Forces Squadron, and leadership from the 71st SFS stand for the National Anthem during a dedication ceremony at the Vance Air Force Base Visitor Control Center April 24. A bronze plaque dedicating the visitor center in honor of Mendez, who died in a motorcycle accident in 2016, was unveiled during the dedication which featured short speeches from Maj. Christopher Jackson, the 71st SFS commander, and Mendez’s sister.
