Scherff brothers
First Lt. Jared Scherff, left, gives his twin brother, 1st Lt. Andrew Scherff, the second half of a set of broken wings during Jared's graduation dinner, Oct. 2. At every undergraduate pilot training graduation, the Air Force issues each new pilot a first pair of wings. Tradition requires that the pilot never wear that first pair. Instead, for good luck, the wings should be broken in two parts -- one half for the pilot and the other for a close friend or relative. Andrew gave his brother the other half of his broken wings when Jared returned from SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) training Nov. 7. (Courtesy photo)
