Six members of the 71st Flying Training Command Post pose for a group photo April 28. They were named the best small command post in the Air Force in April in recognition for their work ethic and responsibility.
On April 29 during Enlisted Appreciation Night, retired Maj. George Pankonin, the Chairman of the Vance Enlisted Appreciation Night Committee, presents a shadow box made for the late Mary Feighter. Mary was a long-time supporter of Enlisted Appreciation Night, and the shadow box was to be presented the night of the event. Participants recognized Mary’s support of Team Vance Enlisted Airmen with a standing ovation.

George stepped down from the committee April 29 at Enlisted Appreciation Night, to pursue other volunteer and political avenues. Retired Chief Master Sgt. Bruce Aman has taken his place.
Special Olympians and their families walk during the Parade of Athletes March 22 in the Area 6 Special Olympics Track and Field Meet at Vance Air Force Base. More than 100 volunteers from the community and the base supported several hundred athletes.
The family of the late Staff Sgt. Christina Mendez, from the 71st Security Forces Squadron, and leadership from the 71st SFS stand for the National Anthem during a dedication ceremony at the Vance Air Force Base Visitor Control Center April 24. A bronze plaque dedicating the visitor center in honor of Mendez, who died in a motorcycle accident in 2016, was unveiled during the dedication which featured short speeches from Maj. Christopher Jackson, the 71st SFS commander, and Mendez’s sister.
Capt. Zach Roycroft, the 71st Operations Group’s chief of Functional Check Flight, and a T-6 Texan II instructor pilot with the 33rd Flying Training Squadron, is also a helicopter pilot. He initiated a program at Vance that helps show the fixed-wing pilots that a helicopter is awesome to fly, but hard to master. (Courtesy photo)
