2008 Area 6 Special Olympics at Vance
Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Michael Gilbert is dunked during festivities for the 2008 Area Six Special Olympics March 27 at Vance. This year there was more than 250 Special Olympians between the ages 8 and 82 from Grant, Garfield and Kay counties in Oklahoma participating in the day’s activities. Competitions were held in track, field and wheelchair athletics. Track athletics included wheelchair races, 25-meter walk and the 1-mile run. Field athletics included the shot put, softball throw, safety javelin and the long jump. Team Vance and the local community came together once again to ensure a memorable day of competition, camaraderie and fun for these very special athletes.
