5th FTS change of command
Lt. Col. Paul Tom, right, accepts the command of the 5th Flying Training Squadron from Col. James Smetzer, deputy commander of the 340th Flying Training Group at Randolph AFB, Texas, during a change of command ceremony held Sept. 12 in Hangar 170 at Vance AFB, Okla. The former commander, Col. Kevin Kallsen, is taking as assignment as assistant director of operations with the 340th FTG. The 5th FTS is an Air Force Reserve Command unit that augments all phases of flying training by providing qualified instructor pilots to the other flying squadrons at Vance.
